How did photography reflect the year of 1989? The exhibition in the 2nd floor gallery of the Trade Fair Palace aims to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. At the same time, it seeks to examine the turning year of 1989 which was a breaking point not only for the Czech society, but also for photography. At that time, photography as a medium celebrated the 150th anniversary of its invention, and without the authors probably knowing that this was the last year of their activity in the usual institutional framework they were used to for years. The life of many of them radically changed after 1989: they could enjoy freedom in the new regime, do business, exhibit their work, and create freely. Some publishing house and galleries were closed down; the way of art creation changed; new printed media and private galleries were founded, and photography itself has dissolved in the syncretism of new approaches.
