Anežka Minaříková drew inspiration for her site-specific installation from her trip to the USA, where she became acquainted with the most modern achievement of the entertainment industry – the so-called “money machines” – large boxes with money floating in the air in which people allow themselves to be shut in with the goal of catching as many dollars as possible. Possessing does not mean finally being satisfied, but rather never having enough and still wanting more.
For the site-specific installation Anežka Minaříková created for the NIKA Gallery, this student of graphic design and new media at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague drew inspiration from her trip to the USA, where she became acquainted with the most modern achievement of the entertainment industry – the so-called “money machines” – large boxes with money flying in the air in which people allow themselves to be shut with the goal of catching as many dollars as possible. They can take away all of the money they grab. Thus one can watch people as they comically battle with the wind inside the box and their hectic movements that unconsciously reveal their desperate desire and personal complex with the impossibility of having enough of everything. As a result, for the artist these money machines become a bizarre metaphor of human behaviour, when possessing does not mean finally being satisfied, but rather never having enough and still wanting more. More love, more food, more rain, more sun, more non-work…
